Lifestyle factors play a major role. At age 25, the chance of having a baby with Down Syndrome is about 1 in 1,250. By age 40, it rises to 1 in 100. Preeclampsia rates also climb: 30% higher for women 40 to 44 compared to those 35 to 39, and more than double for women over 45.
